This news comes after Finland gave last week a second resolution on the construction of a gas pipeline in the exclusive economic zone of the country.
Of the 87 various wartime munitions on the route of the Nord stream 2 will be neutralized before the start of construction, the Finnish newspaper Kymen Sanomat reported, citing a high-ranking Finnish Environmental inspector, Piia Nieminen.
“During the war shells that was found on the route of the future pipeline and there are 87 of them – will be neutralized before the work begins,” Nieminen, who was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
“Other objects on the seabed, including archaeological finds, as well as the cables and pipes will be protected or bypassed in the course of construction,” she added.
This statement was made after the regional Administrative Office of southern Finland issued the final permit for the construction of two pipelines within the project “Nord stream 2” in the Finnish exclusive economic zone on April 12.
Preparatory work before beginning pipeline construction is expected to begin this spring. The pipeline will be commissioned by the end of 2019.
The gas pipeline “Nord stream” 2 is projected to supply 55 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas to EU countries via the Baltic sea to Germany, bypassing Ukraine.
