As per market examination data, the median age of passenger vehicles in Ukraine’s internal market reached 15.5 years in September 2025.
Delo.ua reports this information with regards to the findings from the Institute for Car Market Research.
This metric differs considerably based on location — from 11 years within Kyiv’s boundaries to exceeding 19 years throughout the southern and eastern areas of the country.

Where are the youngest cars?
The most recent vehicle stock was registered in Kyiv (11.2 years), along with the Transcarpathian and Lviv regions – each averaging 14.7 years.
In the capital, this can be attributed to higher consumer purchasing power and brisk advancement in the new car sector, while in western provinces, geographical proximity to bordering nations influences trends. A majority of pre-owned vehicles entering the nation from Europe originate from that direction, featuring an average age of 8.4 years.
Where is the oldest car fleet?
The oldest vehicles in use are located in Kherson (19.3 years) and Donetsk (19.2 years) oblasts.
Underlying reasons include economic and safety considerations, like subdued levels of transportation renewal because of warfare and territories under partial occupation. Information regarding the Luhansk region and temporarily occupied Crimea is unavailable.
The combined median age of the automotive pool — 15.5 years — highlights an explicit link between the architecture of the secondary market and the condition of the national transport assets. Regional variations — such as a comparatively fresher market in Kyiv and the west, where European imports hold sway, juxtaposed with an older market in the east and south — mirror the degree of public financial wellbeing and logistical characteristics within the different locales.
As a contrasting point, the median vehicle age across EU member countries sits around 12 years, underscoring a structural divergence from Ukraine’s vehicle stock.
Accordingly, the age brackets for vehicles on the market offer insight into the present state of secondhand cars, given that the domestic market essentially “trades what it possesses.”
We would also mention that back in August of 2025, the average vehicle age in Ukraine’s internal market stood at 16.1 years.
