Truck sales declined in September / Freepik
The truck market (vehicles with a full mass exceeding 3,500 kg) in September 2025 came to 1,454 units. This points to a downturn both relative to August 2025 (a decrease of 2.4%) and a noteworthy contraction versus September 2024 (a decrease of 27.9%).
Delo.ua reported this, citing a study by the Auto Market Research Institute.
Dynamics of the Truck Market
The truck market’s structure highlights a considerable prominence of internal resales, which make up 71.7% (1043 units). Used truck imports account for 15.1% (219 units), whereas domestically produced vehicles hold a 9.4% share (136 units). Simultaneously, new truck imports constitute only 3.9% (56 units). Overall, new vehicles (both imported and domestic) represent 13.2% of the overall segment.
Internal Market
Among the trucks sold within the country, tipper trucks, vans, and flatbed versions are in particularly high demand. The top 3 models underscore the contrast within the Ukrainian vehicle pool:
- The leader is the ZiL-130 family (Soviet era technology).
- In second place — GAZ-3307(08, 09).
- Third place belongs to Mercedes-Benz trucks based on the T1/T2 chassis, production of which was discontinued in 1995–1996.
It is worth noting that this segment is the most aged within the Ukrainian vehicle marketplace – the average age of trucks in the 3500+kg category was 24 years.
Top 10 Imported Trucks with Mileage
The Ukrainian vehicle inventory was most frequently augmented last month by vans with tail lifts, regular vans, and container carriers.
In the sphere of imports of heavy and medium-duty trucks, the top three frontrunners are clearly identifiable this time: Mercedes-Benz Atego, followed by Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and in third place is MAN TGL. For obvious reasons, specifically the absence of supply from abroad of vehicles manufactured in the Soviet Union, our fleet is replenished with used trucks of European brands.
Top 10 New Trucks
In this subsection, the greatest demand was for dump trucks, refrigerated vans, and vans with tail lifts.
Among the new trucks registered last month, brands not widely known to the public are predominant – these are mainly chassis of foreign origin, which, after being re-equipped in Ukraine, receive completely different names, specifically, designations with a diverse assortment of symbols.
As a reminder, based on the results for July 2025, the market size for trucks with a gross weight exceeding 3.5 tons in Ukraine totaled 1,459 units. That is 0.5% greater than in June, but 38.7% less than in the identical month of 2024.
