© Prosecutor General's Office The deputy was charged with three counts, including treason.
The State Bureau of Investigation announced the completion of the investigation into treason and fraud against incumbent MP Yevhen Shevchenko. Although law enforcement agencies did not name the suspect, the circumstances of the cases point to him.
“During the pre-trial investigation, investigators investigated three episodes. The first two concerned treason before and after the start of the full-scale invasion. The third involved the fraudulent appropriation of UAH 14.5 million from a private enterprise by a people's deputy,” the bureau noted, adding that after the defense side familiarizes itself with the case materials, the materials will be transferred to the court.
According to the investigation, since 2020, the MP has visited Belarus several times, where he met with businessmen, politicians, and the self-proclaimed president, and used these meetings to spread false information about the “absence of a threat of attack from the territory of Belarus.”
The deputy actively recorded programs on his own media channels, gave interviews to pro-Russian bloggers and experts, in which he spread Russian narratives. Subsequently, these materials were distributed on Russian propaganda resources, creating the impression in the aggressor society that this was the official position of a representative of the Ukrainian authorities.
“He did not stop this activity even after the invasion began,” the SBI noted.
At the same time, the deputy used his own connections in Belarus to negotiate the supply of mineral fertilizers. The Ukrainian company paid for the products, but the Belarusian side delayed the delivery. He informed the suppliers about the alleged refusal of the Belarusian Railways to approve the transportation due to the non-conformity of the tank cars, although everything was normal, and forced the business to conclude a contract for consulting services with a company controlled by him for the amount of UAH 14.5 million.
The State Bureau of Investigation noted that the sanctions of the articles under which the deputy is accused provide for punishment of up to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The suspect has currently been in custody in a pre-trial detention center since the fall of 2024.
