If recently “something strange was happening” with the price of bread, now everything has become clear: the main food of Ukrainians will definitely become more expensive.
This was stated by the director of KyivKhlib, Yuriy Duchenko, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
VIDEO OF THE DAY
“For 2025, we see a trend towards higher prices for products. This is understandable, because costs have increased, primarily for raw materials, i.e. flour, for energy sources, and wages have increased. By the end of the year, I think there will be steps towards higher prices. By the end of the year, it (the increase in prices) will be 15−20%,” the expert said at a conference in Kyiv.
Duchenko emphasized that currently most bakers are operating at the edge of profitability, and some are even in the red.

The expert also recalled that in 2024, bread prices increased significantly – by about 20%. This means that bread is becoming less and less affordable for pensioners and people with low incomes.
“Bakery products will continue to rise in price in 2025. If they increased in price by 20% in 2024, then in 2025 the growth will be another 15−20%,” said Yuriy Duchenko, director of Kyiv Khlib LLC.
Assessing the prospects and trends of the industry in 2025, the director of Kyiv Khlib noted the growth in demand for breads with simple recipes in tons. At the same time, there is a decline in sales of wheat, bakery and butter products. That is, according to him, the demand for more marginal products in tons is decreasing.

Among the main problems of the industry, the expert named the leaching of working capital from processing enterprises due to low production profitability, energy dependence, a decrease in the purchasing power of Ukrainians, logistical difficulties, export restrictions, and market shadowing, which reached 40−50%.
The situation could be resolved, according to the director of Kyiv Khlib, by automating industrial production, applying innovative technologies, in particular artificial intelligence, changing sales channels, developing fast food and street food, franchising schemes, and focusing on fresh, healthy bread.
So far, the situation in stores looks like this:
A loaf of Riga Borodinovsky rye bread weighing 300 grams currently costs an average of 45.83 hryvnias. The price has practically not changed since July. In large retail chains, it fluctuates between 44.9 and 47.7 hryvnias, the Ministry of Finance writes.

In particular:
Auchan — 44.9 hryvnias,
Metro — 44.9 hryvnias,
Megamarket — 47.7 hryvnias.
A regular loaf of bread has also become more expensive. While it used to be cheaper, now it costs an average of 36.7 hryvnias for 450 grams. This is almost 9 hryvnias more than last year.
Another unpleasant news: milk prices continue to slowly rise, and there is no end in sight to this process.
