A man who killed a grandmother during a morning dog walk in a “vicious and brutal attack” while living in isolation to avoid being sent back to prison will soon hear his sentence.
Roy Barclay, 56, 'multiple kicks, punches and punches' Anita Rose, 57, as she walked her springer spaniel Bruce in Brantham, Suffolk, on July 24, 2024.
The mother of six was found by passers-by, but died in hospital four days later.
Barkley, who denied murder, was found guilty following a previous trial at Ipswich Crown Court and is due to appear at the same court on Wednesday for sentencing.
Ms Rose's eldest daughter, who gave her name as Jess, said after Barclay's conviction last month that “criminals should not go free”.
“There are too many risks and our communities need to be protected,” she said.
She added: “We need to keep our communities safe, keep an eye on people and return offenders to prison if they breach the terms of their release.”
Barkley was previously convicted and sent to prison for assaulting an elderly woman in 2015.
Prosecutors argued the attack was similar to the attack on Miss Rose.
Barkley was released from prison in February 2020 but had no permanent address.
