League of Ireland: Cork City beat Galway United, Bohemians lose to Drogheda

Cork City beat Galway United 1-0 in a League of Ireland match at Turners Cross on Friday night.

The only goal of the game was scored by Joshua Fitzpatrick in the fifth minute to give Cork their first win since April.

In another match, Drogheda United beat Bohemians 1-0.

Josh Thomas ended the 86-minute goalless tie with the only goal.

Despite Bohemians having more than 70 per cent possession, they failed to create any scoring chances and were unable to close the gap on Shamrock Rovers at the top of the table to four points.

Shamrock Rovers remain top of the league with 49 points after Friday night's fixtures.

Bohemians are second with 42 points, followed by Derry City and Drogheda United, who both have 41 points.

Shelbourne are fifth on 35 points and face Sligo Rovers on Saturday night.

Waterford face St Pat's on Sunday, while league leaders Shamrock Rovers take on Derry City.
