New-York startup Astronomer—whose CEO stepped down after he was caught by the KissCam at a Coldplay gig embracing a woman who wasn't his spouse—is struggling to pivot away from the scandal with help from someone who knows the band rather well.
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who was wed to Coldplay front-man Chris Martin for 13 years, said on Friday that the publisher Astronomer has appointed her as its public-relations face.
The tech firm, Astronomer, landed in the spotlight when two of its executives were filmed sharing a cozy embrace at a Coldplay show—a clip later splashed across the stadium's giant screen.
Chief executive Andy Byron and human-resources head Kristin Cabot were caught off-guard after Martin had the roaming camera sweep over the crowd earlier this month.
“Either they're a couple or they're just incredibly bashful,” Martin quipped when the pair flashed onscreen and promptly tried to hide their faces.
In a brief social video, the Shakespeare in Love and Iron Man star revealed she has been brought on as a “strictly interim” spokesperson for Astronomer.
“Over the past few days, Astronomer has been inundated with questions, and they asked me to tackle the most common ones,” Paltrow said, smiling while deftly sidestepping the KissCam fracas.
“We're thrilled that so many people are newly curious about data-processing automation,” she added.
“Now we'll get back to what we do best—delivering groundbreaking outcomes for our clients.”
When the KissCam footage first surfaced online, it wasn't immediately obvious who the individuals were.
Soon afterward the company outed them, Byron announced his resignation, and Cabot followed suit.
The clip unleashed a torrent of memes, spoof re-enactments, and freeze-frames of their stunned expressions flooding social feeds.
According to analytics tracker Luminate, Coldplay's songs saw a 20% spike in digital streams in the few days after the clip went viral.
