Will mObywatel become AIobywatel? Dr. Kocoń: Implementation by the end of 2025

Artificial intelligence is practically constantly on the news worldwide. Today, the biggest models, such as ChatGPT and Grok, are used by almost everyone. Poland and the Poles are also participating in this great AI race, and, as it turns out, they have something to be proud of. In today's episode of “GPW,” together with Dr. Jan Kocoń, co-founder of the Polish PLLuM, we focused on Polish AI: what it can do, what we still lack, but also where we as a country truly excel.

When we think of AI, the first thing that comes to mind is often the popular ChatGPT. It's not the only language model available on the market, though it's definitely one of the best. Meta, Elon Musk's X, and Google also have their own “chats.” Poland also has its own. It's called PLLuM, and soon—as its co-creator, Dr. Jan Kocoń from the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, told “GPW”—it will be inhabiting… mObywatel.

Aleksander Ogrodnik: What's next for PLLuM? What are your future plans? He's currently answering questions, but he's not an assistant yet. Would you like him to become one?

Dr. Jan Kocoń: Yes. This is the goal of the project. The new PLLuM is scheduled to be implemented at the end of 2025, as a citizen assistant within mObywatel.

AO: So we will be able to say such an AI citizen no longer “m”.

JK: Yes, yes, exactly.

At the Warsaw Stock Exchange, we discussed not only PLLuM, but more broadly, the entire field of Polish AI, which is primarily driven by the power of our “natural” intelligence, meaning our scientists. This is evident – Poles are creating ChataGPT, ElevenLabs is a startup that sprouted in Poland, and just yesterday, Polish computer scientist Przemysław Dębiak won the most prestigious programming competition in the world. However, power cannot be built on minds alone…

What's needed? This entire market needs to be reinvested here, because we have some of these graphics cards for computing. However, if you look at our computing center, which has 300 of these cards, and in the meantime, Meta, for example, which has 300,000 such graphics cards, is buying another 300,000. Well, this is a scale that will certainly be difficult to measure up to,” said Dr. Jan Kocoń at the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

We also checked what AI can do today and what it will be able to do in the coming years.

Aleksander Ogrodnik: What can AI do? Will it eventually be able to become, for example, a stock market investor?

Dr. Jan Kocoń: These things are already happening, and there are financial instruments on which artificial intelligence can actually play quite effectively, for example on currency movements. And such mechanisms have been in place there for years. It's already happening, in fact, large investment firms have such tools and are already taking advantage of them.

It also turns out that AI can help predict image crises, which in turn impact stock prices—as recently seen in the high-profile XTB case. We discussed this and many other issues, including a comprehensive report by the Wrocław University of Science and Technology on AI, in today's “GPW.”
