Rapper Ye, who formerly went by the name Kanye West, attended Sean “Diddy” Combs' New York sex trafficking trial on Friday to show his support for the hip-hop mogul and his longtime friend.
Ye, dressed in white, arrived at Manhattan federal court before noon, when the trial was adjourned.
Asked if he came to support Combs, he said yes and nodded his head.
He then walked quickly to the elevator and appeared to ignore a reporter's question about whether he could testify for Combs when the defense begins presenting its side of the case next week.
Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and racketeering, arguing he used his fame, wealth and violence to commit crimes over 20 years.
Ye's appearance in court came a day after the conclusion of six days of testimony by a woman known in court only by the pseudonym “Jane.”
She said that during her relationship with Combs, which lasted from 2021 until his arrest last September at a Manhattan hotel, she was forced to have sex with men in the sex industry while Combs watched.
Defense attorneys argue that Combs committed no wrongdoing and that federal prosecutors were trying to regulate consensual sex between adults.
On Thursday, Jane revealed that during her three-month break from Combs in January 2023, she flew to Las Vegas with the famous rapper, who is a close friend of Combs.
Before Jane testified on the matter, lawyers and the judge held a lengthy closed-door hearing to discuss what information about the January trip could be released.
Jane was asked whether the rapper she was accompanying and his girlfriend were “significant figures in the music industry and icons of the industry.”
“Yes,” Jane replied.
Jane says she once went to dinner in Las Vegas with a group that included a rapper, to a strip club and to a party in a hotel room where a sex worker had sex with a woman while half a dozen other people watched.
She noted that they were dancing and the rapper said, “Hi, beautiful,” before crudely adding that he'd always wanted to have sex with her.
