Challenges such as the lengthy certification process and the high costs of clinical trials continue to be a barrier for many biotechnology projects. However, despite the aforementioned challenges, medical biotechnology has the potential to become one of the pillars of a modern economy based on knowledge and innovation. What is needed is a greater understanding from the state of what biotechnology projects involve in practice.

In the latest episode of the MamBiznes: Startup Talks podcast, we talk to Marta Winiarska, president of the Polish Association of Innovative Medical Biotechnology Companies BioInMed. Marta has also worked with the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Environment on projects aimed at accelerating startups and innovative SMEs.

Today we discuss the topics of what the process of developing a new drug or therapy looks like in Poland, how science and business cooperate, and what the Polish biotechnology scene looks like.

Medical Biotechnology: More Opportunities or Threats?

Clinical trials are a key stage in the development of new drugs and therapies, allowing for the assessment of their effectiveness and safety. Their importance in Poland is growing. The country is increasingly chosen as a location for research by global pharmaceutical companies, thanks to its well-educated medical staff, extensive infrastructure and competitive costs.

At the same time, the market for research conducted by Polish biotechnology companies is developing, which are increasingly entering the clinical phase with their innovative solutions. However, as Marta Winiarska emphasizes in the MamBiznes: Startup Talks podcast, the Polish market lacks capital to take Polish companies to the third stage of clinical trials.

The guest of the fifth episode of the podcast is Marta Winiarska, president of the board of the Polish Association of Innovative Medical Biotechnology Companies BioInMed. During the conversation, we ask the most important question – will medical biotechnology become a showcase of Polish innovation? We also answer what the process of developing a new drug or therapy looks like in Poland and what challenges the Polish biotechnology industry is facing.
