Ruben Amorim ready to play with Manchester United kids as Europa League takes priority

Ruben Amorim is prepared to field some of his young players as Manchester United's pursuit of Europa League glory comes before the Premier League.

Sunday's 4-1 defeat at Newcastle left them 14th in the table and ensured that this will be the Red Devils' worst ever Premier League campaign.

However, the Europa League offers an opportunity to salvage the season, with the team recording an impressive 5-4 win in the quarter-finals against Lyon on Thursday, which opens the way for a semi-final against Athletic Bilbao.

For the Red Devils, Bilbao has become a symbol of bad luck as the final will also be held there and the battle for trophies and Champions League qualification means changes will be needed in the squad for the games against Wolves this Sunday and beyond.

“I have to see it,” Amorim said of the changes coming. “Players like (Diogo) Dalot are always ready, but today he looked very tired.

“We will try to keep the guys who are at risk of getting injured. We will see (on Friday).

“It’s not the best time or the best season to put kids on the field because they need a solid foundation to showcase their talents, but it’s necessary at the moment and sometimes unexpected turns of events happen.

“Aiden (Heaven) just played and I can be honest because we had a lot of injuries at that point. But today I see Aiden as my player so when he is ready he faces competition in the team and he is ready to go out on the pitch so we don't know what will happen.

“(Harry) Amass played very well today, so we are not sure. Chido (Obi), when he came on the pitch, he did quite well.
