Jude Bellingham aims for historic Real Madrid comeback against Arsenal

Jude Bellingham is confident Real Madrid can recover from their 3-0 defeat in their Champions League first leg at Arsenal on Wednesday to reach the semi-finals.

Real Madrid were left surprised by the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium last week when Declan Rice converted two superb free-kicks to give Carlo Ancelotti's side a tough task.

However, 15-time European champions Real have staged several surprise comebacks over the years – most recently against Manchester City and Chelsea in 2022, as well as Bayern Munich last season – and Bellingham wants to be part of another historic turnaround.

The England midfielder said: “It's something you dream of being a part of. You want to contribute to the history of this club.”

“There is not much that can be done for Real Madrid in the Champions League that has not been done before.

“We have an opportunity tomorrow to do something (overcome a 3-0 deficit) and that really means a lot to us.”

“In terms of mental strength, that's what we think. You can't go out on the pitch expecting anything other than getting back into the game.

“That's how we perceive the match. We are excited, we are ready and we are looking forward to it.

“The atmosphere has been strange in recent days. One of the worst results we could have expected and for some reason everyone thinks we will definitely return to play.

“It's a nice feeling, I have to admit. They trust talent here. It means you're at a club that has no equal, the best in the world.

“That's what it means to me. Of course, there is pressure and we want to deliver on what everyone is thinking.

“That's our goal, and there is pressure, but that's the point, isn't it?”

Real Madrid have already come back from two goals down in the second leg of a semi-final against City under Pep Guardiola in 2022, and were able to beat Bayern Munich in last season's semi-final.
