Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is expected to meet South Sudanese officials on the second day of his visit to the capital Juba amid UN concerns about a possible resumption of civil war after an opposition leader was placed under house arrest.
Mr Museveni, who is one of the signatories of the 2018 peace deal that ended five years of conflict, held closed meetings with President Salva Kiir on Thursday.
South Sudan's Foreign Minister Mohammed Abdullah Gock assured Mr Museveni that the country's leadership was committed to implementing the terms of the peace agreement.
The political situation in South Sudan remains tense, with recent clashes between government forces and armed groups supporting the opposition contributing to increased tensions.
Last month, Uganda sent troops to South Sudan to support the government, a move criticised by South Sudan's main opposition party, the SPLM-IO, whose leader Riek Machar is under house arrest on incitement charges.
In early March, an armed group loyal to Machar attacked a UN helicopter that was on a mission to evacuate government troops from the restive northern state of Upper Nile.
Western countries including Germany and Norway have temporarily closed their embassies in Juba, while the US and UK have reduced the number of staff at their missions.
