Lewis Hamilton said now was not the time to give up on his ambitions and added that his career at Ferrari would not be defined by one race.
Hamilton's debut for the Italian team ended with a disappointing 10th place at the season opener in Australia last weekend.
The 40-year-old admitted he was feeling low on confidence after the rain-affected race.
However, ahead of his second outing for Ferrari in China, Hamilton said: “Now is not the time to throw the toys out of the pram.
“It wasn't the race we were hoping for, but we're moving forward and everyone's got their heads up and there's still a great atmosphere in the garage. We're not defined by this and we won't be defined by one race.”
For much of his first outing in red, Hamilton was in eighth place behind Williams' Alex Albon and politely asked new race engineer Riccardo Adami several times to “pass it to me”.
Adami insisted Hamilton use the overtake button on his Ferrari.
However, the seven-time world champion explained: “Everyone went too far (in radio communications). It was just a squabble.
“I was very polite. I wasn't aggressive. I was really fighting with the car and I had to focus on a few important things.
“We are learning to understand each other, but there are no conflicts between us.
“Listen to the radio communications of other teams and their engineers. They are much worse.
“The conversation that Max (Verstappen) has had with his engineer for many years and the abuse he gets, poor guy.
“We are just learning to understand each other.
“After that, I was like, 'Hey, bro, I don't need that information. But if you're going to give it to me, this is where I want to do it. This is how I feel in the car. And these are the moments where I need and don't need information.'
“That's the point. No problems. Everything is done with a smile on our face, and we keep moving forward.”
Heading into Shanghai this weekend, McLaren appears to have the edge over the rest of the field, with Hamilton's former Mercedes teammate George Russell even suggesting the British team
