Protesters gather outside Tesla dealership in London, call for boycott

Protesters gathered outside a Tesla showroom in London calling on people to stop buying electric cars owned by Elon Musk.

The organizers of the campaign strongly advise Tesla owners to sell their cars and get rid of their stock.

Shares of the electric car company have already fallen since the start of the year as the firm faces growing competition from Chinese manufacturers and calls for a boycott over Musk's close ties to US President Donald Trump and his far-right beliefs.

A small group of protesters outside Tesla in Park Royal, west London, held signs reading “Honk if you hate Tesla” and “Enough fascist nonsense”.

Tesla's dealership continued to operate as usual on Saturday, and employees appeared to ignore the protest.

Two Just Stop Oil protesters were arrested on Wednesday after painting a robot orange at a Tesla store in Shepherd's Bush, west London, the Metropolitan Police said.

Pensioner Catherine Rennie Nash, 74, and former tax consultant Nigel Fleming, 63, climbed onto the display area at the store.

They then painted the robot and unfurled a Just Stop Oil banner, saying it was a protest against Musk and other billionaires “threatening climate science” and democracy.

Tesla has been the target of protests and vandalism in the United States in recent weeks.

Oregon police say they are working with the FBI to investigate shots fired at a Tesla dealership.

The shooting comes a week after federal prosecutors in Denver charged a woman with vandalism of a Tesla dealership in Colorado, including throwing Molotov cocktails at cars and spray-painting “Nazi cars” on the building.

In a show of support for Mr Musk's company, US President Donald Trump bought a new Tesla electric car on his way to the White House on Tuesday, choosing a shiny red sedan.

“Wow,” Mr. Trump said as he climbed behind the wheel of the Model S. “This is amazing.”

Mr Musk continues to run Tesla, as well as social media platform X and rocket maker SpaceX, while serving as an adviser to Mr Trump.
