The law of Pennsylvania requires the Governor to hold a special election at least 60 days after the vacancy in Congress occurs formally, this means that a special election can be called at the beginning of July, depending on when dent decides to retire.

“As soon as the Governor Wolf receives official notification of the resignation with the exact date, he would take a formal decision on setting a date for the by-election,” yesterday, a statement released by the Governor’s office read.

Complicating matters is the looming specter of a new card in the Congress, set in force this fall. In accordance with the decision of the highest state court, for any special election until November would be held at the old map in the Congress, and depending on the timing of the winner can only ultimately serves a few months in the area, which will not exist after November.
