Russian drones attack two Ukrainian cities, killing at least one person

Russian drones have attacked two Ukrainian cities, authorities said, killing at least one person in overnight raids.

The southern port city of Odessa and northeastern Kharkiv were hit on Friday, damaging residential buildings, officials said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said nearly 20 civilians, including girls aged 17 and 12, were injured in attacks by more than 20 drones.

The strikes came as a Kremlin spokesman said dates for a new round of peace talks would be announced next week.

“Russia continues to carry out targeted terror tactics against our people,” Mr. Zelensky said in the Telegram messenger, calling on the United States and the European Union to increase economic pressure on Moscow.

Russia shows no sign of slowing down its attacks more than three years after invading its neighbor, launching a summer offensive along a 620-mile front line and continuing to launch long-range strikes into civilian areas.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that a date for the next round of peace talks was expected to be agreed upon next week.

Kyiv officials have not recently discussed resuming talks with Russia, which last took place when delegations met in Istanbul on June 2, although Ukraine continues to offer a cease-fire and support U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to end the fighting.
