Russian leader Vladimir Putin's security detail has begun to be equipped with portable interceptor drones, the Moscow Times reported, citing a recording posted on social media by Ukrainian military analyst Serhiy Beskrestnov.
A video taken shortly after the May 9th parade in Moscow shows a drone-like device being held by one of Putin's bodyguards. According to an analyst, it is a Jolka interceptor drone, also known as a “pocket-sized unmanned air defense system.”
The high-speed drone rams the target, knocking it off course. Russian bloggers supporting the war against Ukraine have reported that the Yolka can be used against heavy drones and many other types of unmanned aircraft.
This year, during Moscow's May Day parade, mobile internet was blocked, and a special roof was installed over the main grandstand to protect Putin from drone attacks, the website recalled. In the spring, Ukraine intensified drone attacks on regions of central Russia and Moscow. Opposition websites reported that employees of the capital's municipal services were equipped with binoculars and required to observe the sky. (PAP)
