“Jerzy Ż. is an ailing 80-year-old. In 2017, he transferred his studio apartment to Karol Nawrocki and his wife Marta. In return, they were supposed to take care of him,” Onet reports.

“There is no doubt that at the moment Nawrocki is not taking care of Mr. Jerzy or helping him. We have established that the man has been placed in one of the state nursing homes in Gdańsk and it is the employees of this facility who are taking care of him,” the portal reports.

Nawrocki's campaign spokeswoman Emilia Wierzbicki published a statement on social media regarding the matter. Wierzbicki wrote that Mr. Jerzy is Karol Nawrocki's neighbor, that Nawrocki had been helping him for many years, and that he had given the man money to buy the apartment, which he had promised to give to Nawrocki in exchange for the help he provided.

“When Mr. Jerzy came into conflict with the law, he continued to repeatedly turn to Karol Nawrocki for help and always received it. Since the apartment formally became Karol Nawrocki's property, he continued to help Mr. Jerzy by regularly paying bills, shopping for groceries, buying medicines, etc. It is worth emphasizing that Karol Nawrocki never lived in this apartment, never rented it out, nor did he derive any financial benefit from it. He has been paying the fees for the apartment to this day. Mr. Jerzy is still the owner of the apartment. Contact with Mr. Jerzy ended in December 2024. (…) Karol Nawrocki tried to find him through neighbors and friends, but to no avail,” wrote Nawrocki's spokeswoman in the statement quoted by Onet.

Mastalerek: Secret service methods are being used to destroy Nawrocki

Karol Nawrocki has been the subject of a criminal investigation for months, using special services methods; the state is trying to destroy this man, believes Marcin Mastalerek, head of the president's office. The period when the special services were involved in politics ended in December 2023, said Tomasz Siemoniak, head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

On Monday, on Radio Zet, Mastalerek was asked whether the campaign of the presidential candidate supported by PiS would not be overshadowed by the publication by the Onet portal that Nawrocki took over Jerzy Ż.'s apartment in exchange for taking care of him, but that the man ultimately lives in a social welfare home.

Mastalerek noted that he did not want to address the merits of the case, because he “does not know it at all”. He added, however, that he had said many times, for several months, “that the entire country will attack Karol Nawrocki. It will attack between the first and second round”. “I generally believe that these expenses sometime in the future, when PiS returns to power, then the expenses for services and the prosecutor's office in general should be included in the election campaign of the PO candidate,” he said.

When asked if he wanted to say that the secret services were behind the article, he replied: “So where does this knowledge come from? It's obvious. For many months, there have been allegations against him, Karol Nawrocki, using the methods of the secret services. This is obvious to everyone.”

When asked if he had any evidence for this or if it was just his speculation, Mastalerek replied: “How can journalists obtain something like this (…) these are things that are obvious.”

“This is what the election campaign looks like today, that Donald Tusk, by the way not from today, because he has always used such methods, is currently acting. The services, the state, everyone will move between the first and second round. It was the same in the United States. There were attempts to block Donald Trump's candidacy even at the level of state courts,” said Mastalerek.

He stressed that he did not want to comment on the matter because he was not Nawrocki's spokesman, but he knew one thing: “the entire country is trying to destroy this man.”

Also on Monday morning, the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration wrote on platform X that the period when “the secret services were involved in politics ended in December 2023” – thus referring to the date when the current government will take power.

“Those who have it in their blood are trying to explain the disastrous past of one of the candidates with conspiracy theories. And everyone can see what Nawrocki is like. Also thanks to the work of journalists, whose role in democracy is to ask questions and find the truth,” wrote Siemoniak.

MEP Adam Bielan, who is one of Nawrocki's staff members, said on Monday on Polsat News that there are no secrets in this matter. He also announced that Nawrocki will publish his financial statement at noon. (PAP)
