Yoga may be beneficial not only for stress relief but also for brain health, according to the American Heart Association. According to researchers, regular yoga practice reduces inflammation, improves memory and may slow age-related cognitive decline, reducing the risk of dementia.
Experts say that yoga has a complex effect: it combines physical activity, breathing exercises and meditation. This approach helps the brain better regulate stress and supports the connection between the body and the nervous system. In studies comparing women who practice yoga with a control group, the former had more gray matter in the parts of the brain responsible for memory and thinking, as well as a higher level of cognitive activity.
A particularly promising area of research is the impact of Kundalini Yoga on brain health in postmenopausal women, which has been shown to preserve gray matter and improve executive memory function even more effectively than traditional brain training exercises.
Yoga is an affordable alternative to more intense forms of physical activity, especially for the elderly and those with chronic conditions. According to experts, for the effect to be maintained, it must be practiced regularly – at least two to three times a week, otherwise the benefits gradually disappear.
