Liverpool v Everton Women's Super League highlights

Ornella Vignola scored a hat-trick on her Women's Super League debut for Everton as the Toffees cruised to a 4-1 Merseyside derby win over Liverpool.

The Reds took the lead through Cornelia Kapoč's powerful strike into the top right corner in the 12th minute, but Vignola's first goal of the day quickly put the scores behind them.

The summer signing from Granada led her side's counter-attack before switching the ball to her left foot and curling it into the far corner. Katja Snoeys headed Everton ahead shortly before the break.

Brian Sorensen's three early changes quickly gave Everton the upper hand in the derby, with Vignola scoring twice in two minutes to become the first Everton player to score a hat-trick against Liverpool since Dixie Dean in 1931.

Everton striker Ornella Vignola in an interview with Sky Sports:

“The crowd was incredible and it was a great way to start the league!”

On which of the three goals she liked the most: “The first goal, I don't know [how she scored it].” – She doesn't speak English, so she can't really say anything useful from that post-match interview, haha.
