Thomas Müller's 'incredible journey' at Bayern to end this summer

Thomas Müller will end his time at Bayern Munich this summer after 25 years with his home club.

The 35-year-old has won 33 trophies and set a club record for matches played, playing 743 matches and continuing to increase this figure.

Muller's contract expires this summer and there has been much speculation about his future after limited playing time this season.

Bayern confirmed Muller's departure on Saturday, with the striker releasing a statement saying: “Today is undoubtedly a unique day for me.

“My 25 years as a player of FC Bayern Munich will end in the summer. It has been an amazing journey, filled with unique experiences, wonderful encounters and unforgettable victories.

“I feel immense gratitude and joy for having been able to go through this journey at my beloved club. The connection with the club and our wonderful fans will remain with me forever.

“What I want to hear as a farewell should be clear: titles that we will be able to celebrate together and moments that will remain in our memories for a long time.

“We are going to do our utmost in the coming weeks to bring the championship title back to Munich and achieve our dream of the Dahoam Final. Let's do it together!”

Müller joined Bayern's academy in the summer of 2000, when he was 10 years old. During that time, he scored 247 goals and provided 273 assists.

The two-time hat-trick winner and world champion will don the Bayern Munich shirt for the last time at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13.

President Herbert Hainer described Müller's career at Bayern as “fairytale”.

He said: “Thomas Müller is the epitome of the Bavarian fairytale career; he grew up in Bavaria and with Bayern. From Ammersee to the Allianz Arena, including stints in Asia and America.

“Nobody has won more Bundesliga titles, and 33 trophies in total speak for themselves. He is one of the most outstanding personalities in the history of FC Bayern.”
