Since making his five-day debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2007, the Nottinghamshire all-rounder has grown into a mainstay of the England outfit – not least through his devastating new-ball partnership with James Anderson.
Never one to shirk a challenge, Broad summed up his approach to cricket by saying: “I think Test match cricket, I think international cricket should be played with a lot of passion. You’re representing your country, representing fans in the ground. The people watching at home.
“You’d never want anyone to watch, I’d never want anyone to watch me and think I wasn’t giving absolutely everything for my country. So I think that you should be able to give your opposition number in the eye and have that battle.
“That’s part of the excitement of Test match cricket. I don’t think at any stage it’s gone too far. I think actually the respect grows between players when you know that they’ve got a lot of pride playing for their country.”
