Ruben Dias signs new contract with Manchester City, committing his future to the club until 2029.

Ruben Dias has extended his contract with Manchester City for two years, which will keep the Portuguese stopper playing for the club until 2029.

Dias joined City from Benfica in 2020 and has made over 200 appearances under Pep Guardiola, winning 10 titles including the Premier League, FA Cup and the 2022/23 Champions League treble.

His previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season but Dias, who played 68 games for Portugal and played twice in their Nations League triumph, has secured his future at City.

Dias said: “I am extremely happy. City is exactly where I want to be – on the sporting Olympus, fighting for awards. The club's ambitions are completely compatible with mine, and for a footballer there is nothing better.

I truly love Manchester – it's my home now – and I respect and love the Manchester City fans. When I think back to the titles we've won and the style of play we've played in over the years, it's hard to imagine myself anywhere else.

My aim now is to give my best throughout my contract and contribute to the fight for more trophies. The hard work has only just begun and I promise the fans that I will do everything I can to ensure City continues to win and prosper.

Diaz, who started City's previous game against Wolverhampton after their success against the same opponent, was named the best player of the Premier League season for 2020/21.

City's director of football, Hugo Viana, added: “We are extremely pleased that Ruben has signed a new deal and secured his long-term commitment to the club.”

His hard work, professionalism and dedication are evident on a daily basis. He is a leader both in the dressing room and on the pitch. He is a true master of his craft.

“His performances over the last five years have been superb and he has made a significant contribution to our success. Ruben gives everything he has for the City shirt every time he pulls on it and we are delighted to know that he will be staying with us for another four years.”
