Polish talent Sebastian Bialecki challenged Cameron Menzies, Jan van Veen and Danny Noppert on his way to victory at the Players Championship 22 in Hildesheim.

Bialecki won his first PDC title with an 8-6 victory over Niels Zonneveld in the decider on Tuesday.

He achieved significant success by coming back from 6-4 down against Sonneveld to join Krzysztof Ratajski and Radek Szaganski as the third Polish player to win the senior world title.

Bialecki has also never advanced beyond the last 16 of a Players Championship event, but he defied records with a number of outstanding performances in Halle 39.

The former UK Open quarter-finalist fought back from 5-3 down to deny Lukas Wenig points in his opening match and then beat Adam Paxton, Luke Woodhouse and Menzies to reach the quarter-finals.

Bialecki averaged over 100 in wins over Menzies and Van Veen, and posted strikeouts of 161 and 156 in a 7-5 semi-final win over Noppert.

That set up a showdown with fellow Dutchman Zonneveld, who snapped a run of eight consecutive shot stops to take a 6-4 lead in an exhibition match on Tuesday.

However, Bialecki stopped Zonneveld's charge with a double 16 and then hit legs of 15, 12 and 13 darts to secure the biggest win of his young career.

“I don't know what to say. I'm over the moon,” commented Bialecki, who is currently in his first year as a tourist card holder.

“In the first match I was losing 5-3, but I managed to come back and then my confidence and play got better and better.

“The game against Cameron was probably the most important for me because before that I had lost five of my last 16 games.

“I just want to continue to play my best. The main goal was to qualify for the World Championship from the Pro Tour, so hopefully I've done enough.”
