Is the NFL approaching the end of an era with one of its greatest quarterbacks? Can two young quarterbacks handle Lou Anarumo and Brian Flores? We look forward to Sunday, Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season…
Editor's note…
Russell Wilson has long been one of the premier NFL rabbit holes on YouTube, at least for this fan. One dose of Tyler Lockett's rainbow beauty could all too quickly turn into a dose of extended-game-hook magic that could be fed to Doug Baldwin. Before you know it, one clip has become an hour of structure-shattering art and off-kilter magic from the prototype of the modern quarterback position.
Young players coming into the league looked up to this player who possessed the most beautiful deep pass in the history of the game while also being a real pain in the ass for defenders in the backcourt. His ability to play both in the air and on the ground allowed him to make spectacular comebacks and decisive shots that led to victories, and he, along with Pete Carroll, led an era of relentless playoff contention.
It's for this reason that we hope his heroics in Seattle will ultimately outweigh his failures after leaving the Seahawks when the time comes to properly reflect on his career.

The best moments from the Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles game in Week 1 of the NFL season.
Wilson’s shortcomings and decline were on display after his high-profile trade to the Denver Broncos in 2022, with Sean Payton trying to cover up his shortcomings with a conservative, run- and check-down-oriented game that saw him throw occasionally from deep. He initially played better in Pittsburgh last season without changing his game, beating out Justin Fields as the starter, providing consistent protection and efficiency without making any major mistakes, but he eventually slipped into the irrelevant category. But if the NFL has learned anything from Wilson, it’s that he doesn’t go down without a fight.
But there is perhaps no greater battle in football than the task of rekindling a New York Giants offense as stagnant and stagnant as Austin Powers' three-point spurt. Wilson signed with the Giants this offseason as a last-ditch option after the struggling Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen, beating out the charming but terrifying Jameis Winston, and was replaced as the backup by rookie Jackson Dart.
The preseason “good vibe” was gone in Week 1, as Wilson passed for just 168 yards and the Giants scored six points in a loss to the Washington Commanders. In another game, his predecessor, Daniel Jones, who had been criticized, turned into Peyton Manning (not quite), leading the Indianapolis Colts to a rout of the Miami Dolphins.
The Giants weren't expecting a dramatic jump from worst to first, but a hint of progress would have been nice. Without it, the Dart era looks set to begin sooner than expected, as Daboll and Sean look for signs of life in both their team and their career prospects.
Who has the WORST fashion sense? Who eats the most? Who dances the WORST? The Detroit Lions play their teammates.
They didn’t want to and won’t release Dart this early. The first-round pick is a minefield behind an offensive line that has been a major problem for as long as Giants fans can remember. Sure, they have a superstar in Malik Nabers, but that superstar, judging by Sunday’s spat with Daboll, appears to be reaching the end of his tether.
“I was trying to set up the offense, trying to get people going,” Nabers said. “I have 'NBF,' I have a natural hard face, that's what it is. It's just my face, I don't know.”
NBF is a fitting reflection of the Giants' offense.
Wilson will remain the starter heading into Sunday's divisional game against the Dallas Cowboys, but it raises questions about whether the end is near for one of the greatest players at his position. He, the Giants and football fans would like to see it not happen.

What to look out for on Sunday
Chicago Bears v Detroit Lions – 6pm Knockout, Sky Sports NFL and Part of the Main Event
Ben Johnson returns to Detroit for the first time since leaving his offensive coordinator job to become head coach of the Chicago Bears. During his time with the Lions, he oversaw one of the NFL’s most disruptive and multifaceted offenses, whose Week 1 woes against the Green Bay Packers raised questions about how the team will cope without him. The Lions’ offensive line has been upended by personnel changes, and despite returning from injury, there is a lack of pass rush help beyond Aidan Hutchinson. But all eyes are on Jared Goff and his ability to carry Detroit.

New York Giants v Dallas Cowboys – KO 6pm, Sky Sports+ (front channel)
The already hot seat for Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen in Week 1 just got hotter. Now their New York Giants face a big-name division rival desperate for some offensive inspiration. They might want to trust Shane Bowen's defense, where the Giants are waiting for Abdul Carter, Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeau to explode. The Cowboys barely lost to the Eagles on Day 1; the Giants can't afford to do the same.
Denver Broncos v Indianapolis Colts – KO, 21:05, Sky Sports+ (main channel)
Watching Lou Anarumo’s defense torture Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins last weekend, you wonder how it all went wrong for him and his team in Cincinnati, and maybe why the Bengals let him walk. Former players call him the “Mad Scientist” for good reason: His latest creation of chaos turned Tagovailoa into mush, leaving Mike McDaniel teetering on the brink of a disastrous season. With fake pressure, post-snap rotations, and erratic linemen, he made it as difficult as possible for Tagovailoa to diagnose the field he was throwing to. Now Anarumo and his rebuilt Indianapolis Colts defense can test the development of Bo Nix by adding even more chaos.
The best moments from the Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills game in Week 1 of the NFL season.
Carolina Panthers v Arizona Cardinals – KO 9:05pm, Sky Sports+ (live)
Arizona Cardinals fans may have breathed a sigh of relief and a “here we go” after seeing the offensive signal-calling progression in Week 1. Sure, it was the New Orleans Saints, but Kyler Murray pulled out some long-forgotten “wow” throws, along with some surprising decisions, while teasing glimpses of the rushing threat that had him in the MVP conversation a few years ago. Drew Petzing’s goal this year is to highlight Marvin Harrison Jr.’s talent by reducing the number of isolation routes and increasing the number of concepts designed to clear his path, but the Panthers are waiting to be the punching bag for his running attack, which has allowed more than 200 yards for the seventh straight game since last season.
Philadelphia Eagles v Kansas City Chiefs – KO 9:25pm, Sky Sports NFL and Main Event
There are some question marks for the Super Bowl champion Eagles regarding a pass rush that lost its stars this summer and their experimentation with the No. 2 spot, which features Sydney Brown and Andrew Mukuba at safety. But where Howie Roseman seems to have struck gold again is at linebacker. Zach Baun, who was named Defensive Player of the Year last season, and rookie first-round pick Jihad Campbell are shaping up to be the league’s best duo. They’re eerily interchangeable, with Vic Fangio already showing signs of wanting to move Campbell into coverage and out wide. Not something the depleted Chiefs offense wants to see.

Atlanta Falcons v Minnesota Vikings – KO 1.20am Monday, Sky Sports NFL and Main Event
Sunday night’s headline centers on two quarterbacks trying to prove they can be the future of their franchises, Michael Penix Jr. and J.J. McCarthy, the latter of whom shook off a slow start to lead a comeback victory over the Chicago Bears in his NFL debut last week. McCarthy is certainly not one to fall victim to an evil genius like Brian Flores, who just called the quintessential Jekyll and Hyde performance with his four-man runs in the first half and his relentless, exotic blitzes in the second half against the Bears. In fact, he blitzed 55 percent of the time after the half. He’s a young quarterback’s nightmare, and jack-of-all-trades Josh Metellus is the beacon of his creativity.

Who said what?
Travis Kelce on the hit that injured Chiefs teammate Xavier Worthy: “I just have to do better. I've been in the league 13 years, and there's no excuse for me running into my own guys like that. Worthy beat his man, we went out there, and the game started out completely different.”
Lions head coach Dan Campbell on preparing for Ben Johnson's dribble: “Let's just get the basics down on offense and defense, what we think they're going to hang their hat on. Let's stop that first. Let's take care of that, make sure we're all on guard, and then we'll figure out the rest.”
Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward on his team's Week 1 mistakes: “I'm never going to criticize those guys for dropping the ball. I'm still going to pick up the ball at some point in the season. So bad plays are going to happen.”
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix: “It's not about the stats or the outward perfection, it's just that for me, it's just a standard that I've set for myself and I know I can get better.”
Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson on quarterback Justin Fields: “This game rewards those who love it, and he loves it. He plays the right way and has the right attitude. Every time he steps on the field, it's contagious to all his teammates, right?”
The Vikings play quarterback J.J. McCarthy during a win over the Bears: “J.J. runs into the crowd — I think it was after one of the TV timeouts or something — and he looks at us and says, 'Wouldn't you guys rather be somewhere else?' We were all like, 'Wow!'
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff explains why he thinks the NFC North is the strongest division in the NFL.

Super Bowl Rematch Is Here – NFL Season On The Way For The Chiefs?
