Newcastle are ready to make an offer of around £10m for West Ham centre-back Issa Diop (Daily Mail, January 8).

Norwich City are holding out for £15m from Newcastle for midfielder Todd Cantwell (The Sun, January 8).

Newcastle have submitted an improved offer for Lille defender Sven Botman. Botman, who is valued at over £25m (€30m) and has three years left on his deal, is Newcastle’s primary centre-back target. (Sky Sports, January 7); Newcastle are considering a cut-price move for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly after having an offer for Botman rejected (The Times, January 7); Newcastle have seen an offer for defender Botman rejected by Lille, with AC Milan standing by to take advantage (Sun, January 4).

Newcastle are monitoring Anthony Martial‘s situation at Manchester United because of a need to replace injured striker Callum Wilson (Daily Mail, January 7).

Newcastle have stepped up their pursuit of attacking players with Liverpool’s Divock Origi and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke under consideration as strikers and Norwich City’s Cantwell of interest to play as a number 10 (Daily Telegraph); Newcastle and one other Premier League club are interested in signing Cantwell. Sky Sports News has been told it would require a bid of around £15m-£20m for Norwich to consider selling. (Sky Sports, January 6).

Newcastle have made a £25m offer for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos but were quickly rebuffed by the Spanish club (The Sun, January 7); Carlos is on Newcastle’s list of potential signings as they look at alternatives to Sven Botman (Daily Telegraph, January 5).

Newcastle and Italian side Atalanta have been offered the chance to sign Marseille striker Bamba Dieng. The French club are understood to have an asking price of around €15m. (Sky Sports, January 6)

Newcastle are hopeful of signing Aaron Ramsey on loan from Juventus after the Italian club said that the Wales midfielder was free to leave (The Times, January 6); Ramsey is negotiating his way out of Juventus after being told he is no longer part of Max Allegri’s first-team plans, with a move back to the Premier League with Newcastle on the cards for this month (Daily Star, January 4).

Newcastle have their eyes on four current Arsenal stars as they look to bolster their squad this month (Daily Mirror, January 5).

Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti (Daily Star, January 8); Newcastle’s chances of signing Umtiti in the January transfer window have received a timely boost (Daily Express, January 5).

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has told Ousmane Dembele to stay at Camp Nou, with the winger currently locked in a contract standoff with the club (Daily Mirror, January 5); Dembele is reportedly ready to go against his agent’s advice and end speculation about his future by signing a new contract with Barcelona (Daily Express, December 23); Newcastle’s hopes of signing Dembele have been dealt a big blow following reports that Manchester United have entered the race for the Barcelona forward (Daily Star, December 8).

Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham and an as-yet unnamed fourth Premier League club are interested in Everton left-back Lucas Digne (Sky Sports, January 4).

Newcastle have made fresh enquiries for Zenit St Petersburg’s prolific striker Sardar Azmoun (Daily Mail, January 4).

Newcastle are interested in signing Alfredo Morelos this month (Scottish Sun, January 4).

Newcastle want to sign Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on loan in January with a view to a £20m summer transfer (Daily Star, January 2); Newcastle are reportedly ‘in the mix’ for Aubameyang though the frozen-out Arsenal forward is believed to be eyeing up a different destination (Daily Star, December 28).

Mega-rich Newcastle are ready to fight for Calvin Ramsay after Watford launched an auction for the Aberdeen kid (The Scottish Sun, December 30).

Newcastle are reportedly set to make a sensational swoop for PSG midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum – just six months after the ex-Liverpool player left the Premier League (Daily Star, December 29).

Newcastle are interested in a loan for Brazil international forward Gabriel Barbosa after Benfica refused to sell Darwin Nunez in January (Daily Mail, December 29).

Newcastle are looking to find a loan club for striker Dwight Gayle, who is surplus to requirements at St James’ Park (Daily Mail, December 4).
