Nathan Broadhead scores as Ipswich beat Bournemouth to save

Nathan Broadhead scored his debut Premier League goal as Ipswich beat Bournemouth 2-1 to give fresh impetus to their fight to stay in the league.

Bournemouth, looking to bounce back from their FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, have been strengthened by the return of defenders Dean Heysen and Milos Kerkez from suspension.

Ipswich were missing Leif Davies and Omari Hutchinson, with former England midfielder Kalvin Phillips an unused substitute.

Bournemouth controlled the ball early in the match but their passing was not as accurate as manager Andoni Iraola would have liked.

A corner from Lewis Cook threatened to cause problems for the Ipswich defence but the ball was eventually cleared to centre-back Dara O'Shea.

O'Hara then had to make a decisive run to divert Dango Auttara's cross for another corner, where Alex Scott was on target to fire home.

In the 26th minute, Evanilson looked to have a chance to open the scoring after a pass from Auttara, but O'Shea managed to slide in and block his attempt.

Ipswich, who have lost their last five league games, first threatened Bournemouth's goal when Ben Johnson lobbed the ball over the opposition defence but Liam Delap could not reach it.

Brighton's Julio Enciso also had a go, firing a 25-yard shot over the corner of the post and crossbar as the Tractor Boys began to gather momentum.

O'Shea saved his side again by denying Scott from close range, while Palmer made a superb dive to deny the Bournemouth midfielder a goal.

Soon after that double save, Broadhead gave Kieran McKenna's side an unexpected lead.

Enciso dribbled past a group of defenders and passed to Broadhead, who got past Dean Heysen and fired between the legs of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Scott came close to levelling for Bournemouth in the second minute of the break, firing a powerful shot from 20 yards out but Palmer was able to tip the ball over the bar.

The game seemed all but over when Delap doubled Ipswich's lead in the 60th minute with his 11th Premier League goal of the season.

Delap initiated the attack by releasing Conor Townsend down the left flank, before finding space in the penalty area to slot home from a defender's effort.

Bournemouth were awarded a penalty when Antoine Semenyo went down following a foul by Axel Tuanzabe.

Referee Robert Jones was forced to overturn his decision after video referee Graham Scott spotted contact outside the penalty area.

The Cherries managed to equalise with 23 minutes remaining when Evanilson fired home from point-blank range after Palmer had only parried Cook's initial effort.
