Paul Merson believes “Manchester United” it was scary to watch at times this season, and says that Jose Mourinho must know that the game is changing.
The 1-0 defeat of Manchester United at bottom club West Brom on super Sunday handed rivals Manchester city to the Premier League side, Mourinho is struggling for the second place above Liverpool and Tottenham.
But Merson believes that slow, below par performance was a microcosm of the entire season, and says things must improve next term.
“I’ve never seen anything like the performances of Manchester United on Sunday, at the highest level,” said Merson. “It was like, ‘we turn up and clean the floor with these’.
“It was too slow. It was not good. They were scary looking, and they have enough attacking talent. It’s not like you’re sitting there thinking: ‘who they can bring here?’
“They never looked like scoring! No forms for them when I watch them just think it’s – if it happens, it happens, if it is not they fight’. But when I look Tottenham, Liverpool and man city, you can see that they’re trying to do.”

Merson believes Mourinho, three-time champion of the Premier League, was a clear tactic to win the title this season, but the plan came unstuck in October in Huddersfield.
Winning the style Mourinho has worked in the past, said mercy, but the sky sports expert believes that football is changing, with attacks increasing and strengthening with less attention.
“Before Paul Pogba got injured in September, the organization of the teams was to tear to shreds, and before Huddersfield to win in October, Jose Mourinho had a plan to win the League.
Mourinho insists that he knows how to win titles after city were crowned Premier League Champions
“The plan was to beat all the smaller teams and a draw with the big teams. That’s why he went to Liverpool and to close, a good result, but then he went to Huddersfield and lost 2-1. And then they’re behind the eight ball and won everything.
“Manchester United need to improve, as tactically and with personnel. Mourinho is a serial winner, don’t get me wrong, he’s a phenomenal Manager, but the game is changing.
“You have to win more games. We have seen in Europe, getting a goalless draw in Seville, You can’t do that in this day and age. You must score a goal away from home! Juventus went out in the real world and won three, Liverpool went to man city and got two.
“There is too much attacking talent on the field, and the defenders not as good as they used to be.”
