Lukas Bergwall is delighted with Tottenham's “really strong squad” and is delighted to continue his role as Thomas Frank's assistant.
Bergwall played 80 minutes of Tottenham's 3-0 Premier League win over Burnley on Saturday after coming on in Spurs' midweek Super Cup final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
Frank employed different tactics in both games and selected central midfielder Bergwall as the No.10 in the first league game in the absence of injured James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.
After a solid performance against Burnley, Bergwall is hoping to feature against Manchester City on Saturday and said his confidence was high after a summer in which the arrivals of Mohamed Kudus and Joao Pallina raised the level of the squad.
“We approach each game individually, of course we are aiming for the Champions League and want to win all the competitions, but every week is a new match, so we look at each game individually,” said Sweden international Bergvall.
“We know what we are capable of. We have a very, very strong team and we won 4-0 away (against Manchester City) last year. It will still be a very difficult game and we need to prepare.”
Bergwall, 19, almost scored against Burnley after just 60 seconds and, although he played out wide for most of the game, he relished the challenge of breaking through a five-man defence.
Asked where he prefers to play, Bergvall replied: “I don't know, it depends on the coach. I can play both there and there. As he decides.”
“It was difficult to find space against five defenders, but sometimes when I drop a little deeper and move around the pitch with the ball it helps.”
The arrival of Paligni from Bayern Munich has increased competition in midfield but the Tottenham youngster believes he can learn a lot from the Portuguese international.
“Of course (I can learn), he played at the top level for many years at Bayern and Fulham and it's great that we have another midfielder with experience,” Bergwall added.
Richarlison's double, including a superb scissor kick, proved decisive against Burnley.
“It was amazing,” Bergvall admitted.
“Richie did really well in pre-season and against PSG. Even though he didn't score, he was very strong and today he scored two goals.”
Although Bergvall is enjoying working with Frank so far, he is reluctant to compare the Danish coach to Ange Postecoglou, who brought him to the club from Djurgården and showed him great confidence last season.
Bergwall added: “It was very good. You saw the final against PSG, we lost, but it was a very good performance from us, so it's a really good start to the season.”
“It's hard to compare, I don't want to compare managers, but we had a great start, we worked hard every day and tried to unite the team. Everything went very well.”
Burnley manager Scott Parker was away with Armando Brochi in north London.
Parker said: “Broge still needs some work and we need to tread very carefully and try to get him on the right track.
“I don't want to rush things with him. You need to be in peak physical condition to get into the team. We'll see how we deal with him next weekend (against Sunderland).
