Joe Root has dismissed David Warner's psychological games, calling the former Australian Open player's recent criticism “just part of the fun” ahead of the Ashes winter tour.
Warner recently commented on Root, who has become the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket this summer but has yet to score a century in Australia: “Josh Hazlewood tends to score quite a lot. He's going to have to take the board off his front foot.”
Warner retired from international cricket last year but will meet Root for old times' sake again when his London Spirit take on Root's Trent Rockets at Lord's on Thursday – live on Sky Sports Cricket from 6pm (6.30pm kick-off).

When asked by reporters if he laughed at the joke, Root replied: “Yes, exactly. I can't control how people perceive the game or talk about it in interviews.”
“Nothing new, right? You know, there will be storylines, and people will want to make a big series. Nothing really changes.

“It doesn't matter to me. What can I do about it? Just make sure it doesn't become a topic of conversation in six months or 100 days.
“When you go out on the pitch you have to try to influence the game and help the team get off to a good start. I think it's business as usual.
“I think it's all part of the fun. We'll see what happens there [with Warner at Lord's]. It's not in my nature to be too verbose.”
Root scored 120 on the third day of the fourth Test match against India, becoming the second-highest scorer in Test matches.
