Hull city player Brian Lenihan announced his retirement from football at the age of just 23.
Former cork city soccer announced the news on Twitter, saying that it was a decision ” that it is not easy, but thanks to the doctor I got is a set of actions to be taken for my own well-being.”
Lenihan made 27 League games for cork city before he was signed by hull in 2014.
However, his time in England was hampered by injury and as a result, the player makes only one appearance in the League for the tigers.
The statement of Lenihan in full reads:
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone associated with hull city AFC for the care and support I have received over the past 4 years.
“From a medical point of view, the staff went above and beyond for me and for that I am eternally grateful.
“In light of the events of late last year, it is with deep regret that I had to retire from professional football.
“I would like to Express special thanks to Dr. mark Waller, Rob price, Alan Peacham and Ruben Crespo for the exemplary care and support they provided me during my stay at the club.
“I also want to Express my gratitude to Steve Bruce, Mike Phealan, Marco Silva and Nigel adkins for the advice during my work at the club.
“Sometimes in life you have to give up a life long dream to ensure You live a happier and more fulfilling life.
