Eddie Howe admits he has 'no total' control over Alexander Isak's future

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted he is not “in complete control” over Alexander Isak's future.

Isak has been heavily linked with Liverpool after his interest in a move from Newcastle was revealed.

The Swedish striker has three years left on his contract with Newcastle, where he joined from Spanish side Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022, but he did not take part in the club's pre-season tour of the Far East.

“He is still our player. He has a valid contract with us,” Howe said at a news conference in Seoul on Tuesday.

“We, to a certain extent, control his future fate. I would like to hope that we still have all the opportunities.

“I want him to stay, but it's not entirely in my power.

“We have not received an official offer for Alexander from any club. I want him to stay and we want to see him play again next year.”

Liverpool are expected to step up their interest in Isak, who scored 23 goals last season to secure Champions League qualification for Newcastle, as Colombian striker Luis Diaz closes in on a move to Bayern Munich.
