Result: Wrexham 2-3 West Bromwich

Wrexham have not been used to losing in recent years, but they are clearly unable to avoid it at their home stadium.

In the three seasons preceding their return to the Second Division for the first time since 1982–83, the team won or drew 64 matches, losing just five.

However, West Brom turned the game around on Saturday lunchtime, going sixth in 70. After losing their opening game to Southampton, it was West Brom's first defeat in successive league games since February 2024.

It was the first of four home games in six, and Sky Sports Football's Don Goodman noted: “Home is where Wrexham need to show their strength. They want to be tough here.”

“They might need to find a way to be a little more creative in attack.”

Kevin Phillips added: “Is this the start of a mini-crisis? They haven't lost in two years, so they're in for a real fight now.”

Wrexham will need the experience of the likes of Kieffer Moore and Conor Coady but manager Phil Parkinson is still hoping for a move, saying: “We're looking at everyone. We'll probably need a couple more players.”

Highlights from the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Coventry City.

Result: Derby 3-5 Coventry

It was without a doubt the most entertaining match of the weekend in the Championship, with Coventry City taking the lead, then going behind early in the second half, before coming back to stun Derby County with a flurry of late goals.

It was a defining moment for Frank Lampard's side after a goalless first-leg draw at home to Hull City and hopefully it is a signal to him of what to expect from his side and the impressive attacking options he has at his disposal.

No doubt it also brought him some satisfaction as he took his first win in his second attempt back at Pride Park.

“I thought we played a really great game,” Lampard said. “It was a really tough game for us because of the style of Derby, which makes it really tough, but I thought we did really well.”

“One of the most important things was that we showed confidence at 3-2. I had the feeling that we could still do something, and the players did. So it's one of my favourite games since I've been here.”
