Bukayo Saka 'really happy' at Arsenal but in no rush to sign new deal

Bukayo Saka has said he is in “no rush” to sign a new contract but said it was “clear” he wants to commit his future to Arsenal.

The player, who is set to return to the starting line-up for the first time in almost four months when Arsenal face Real Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, has two years remaining on his current deal.

Saka received a hero's welcome when he came on as a second-half substitute against Fulham last week after a 101-day injury lay-off and scored to secure Arsenal's 2-1 win.

“For me, I want to win and I want to do well wearing this badge,” Saka said. “It's obvious that the fans know how much I love them. And you saw when I came on (against Fulham) that I think they care about me too.

“We have a great relationship and I'm really happy to be here.”

Asked if he would like to complete negotiations on a new contract this summer, the 23-year-old said: “I have two years left so it's pretty calm.

“Everyone knows what I'm thinking and I've already made it clear to you, so I don't think there's any rush.”

Saka's return from injury is a big moment for Arsenal as they look to overcome all odds and beat Real Madrid to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

A torn hamstring, which required surgery, was the first significant absence of his career.

However, the England international added: “From a mental point of view it was really good for me.

“Of course, it was tough at first when I found out how serious my injury was and that I would have to have surgery. But once it was done and successful, I focused on coming back stronger.

“I've been playing match after match for the last five years and this was my first real break which really did me good.

“I had to do a lot of things that I don't usually do. But it's really nice to be back and I feel mentally fresher, that's for sure.”
