The longer this process drags on, the more difficult it will be for Liverpool to try and sign Alexander Isak given the time it will take to make such a key signing.
Since Liverpool first made their informal enquiry, there have been rumours that Newcastle will not sell Isak until they have a top-quality replacement ready to go.
They tried the same with Benjamin Cesko last week but he chose Manchester United. However, I would suggest that there must come a point where the situation becomes untenable.
This is a major deal that requires significant financial investment. In the final days of the transfer window, such a deal will be difficult to carry out. Recall that Newcastle are looking for two strikers, having already lost Callum Wilson.
Of course, they are in talks with Brentford over Yoane Wissa and hope to sign him in the coming days, but the situation is still at a standstill. Even if they do sign Wissa, they will still need another striker to allow Isak to leave.
Liverpool's initial offer was £110m, which is also quite a long way from Newcastle's expectations. I would suggest they would have to come back with a significant increase for Newcastle to start paying attention.
