Head coach Renee Slegers added: “Alessia is a really important part of our group and I'm very happy that she has signed a new contract here.”

“As a striker, Alessia often steals the spotlight with her goals, but she brings so much more to our team. She is a dedicated player, works hard for the team and contributes greatly to its culture. I look forward to achieving more together.”

Russo targets more trophies after new Arsenal deal

Russo was part of the Lionesses' successful defence of the European Championship title last summer, scoring in the final against Spain, and has also been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.

She scored a career-best 20 goals last season to help the Gunners achieve Champions League success, but the England striker is determined to do even more in the WSL and win more trophies.

“We are very aware that at times we have not been satisfied with our performances in the league over the last few years. I always say that when you win a trophy it lights a fire to want to continue and win more,” she said.

I also think it builds confidence in yourself and the team because we did it against some of the best teams in Europe, and this league has some of the best teams in Europe. The league is so competitive that you can't miss a game. But I think it's given us confidence as a team, and now we can put that into practice.

“We've set a new standard for ourselves, so now we have to go out and do it every week.”

The level of our players, the standard of preparation and the demands of the coaching staff on training are really high. I want to continue to develop as a player, but we also want to continue to win trophies.

“After last season we felt that we can perform at the highest level and now we want to do it consistently throughout the season.

“I want to do everything I can to be the best version of myself for myself and my team.

“When you play for a club like Arsenal you owe it to yourself and the team to do everything you can to be at your best, to be in the best shape and to work hard.”

“I will do it and I want to do it at Arsenal.”
