Moscow (Sputnik) – a Russian carrier rocket with military satellite was launched Thursday from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, Russian defense Ministry confirmed.
“Proton-M heavy rocket with a payload for the Ministry of defense was successfully launched from the cosmodrome “Baikonur”,” the Ministry spokesman told reporters.
The launch took place at 1:12 a.m. Moscow time (22:15GMT) and was smooth, added the spokesman.
Briz-M upper stage separated from the rocket after ten minutes. The satellite is expected to reach the designated orbit within a few hours, according to the Ministry of defence.
The previous month, Russia launched a rocket light-class Soyuz-2.1 V carrier with a military satellite on Board. Tit was the first launch of the Soyuz rocket from the Russian cosmodrome Plesetsk in 2018.
