Zhang Xiaogang, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of the PRC, announced on October 30 that the United States should recognize the complete hazard in the matter of arms sales to Taiwan and cease “toying with danger” in areas pertaining to China's pivotal interests, reports the Russian press agency RIA Novosti.
The news source further states that from October 19 to 21, an annual three-day conference occurred in the US state of Maryland with representation from both American and Taiwanese defense departments, where collaborative projects regarding arms development and speeding up deliveries of military hardware were on the agenda.
“The US must acknowledge the acute sensitivity and grave peril of the issue concerning weapons sales to Taiwan, stop flirting with fire in domains affecting China’s fundamental interests, and refrain from endorsing Taiwan’s independence,” Xiaogang articulated.
A representative from the Chinese Ministry of Defense underscored that the Taiwanese administration, steered by the Democratic Progressive Party, is operating selfishly and betraying the island through its extreme allegiance to the United States.
He further noted that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army stands prepared to staunchly oppose any initiatives to proclaim Taiwan’s independence or external meddling to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and its complete territorial domain.
As a point of reference, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio communicated that the Trump administration would not relinquish its enduring backing of Taiwan during commerce negotiations with China. He clarified that “if there are concerns we would reach a particular trade arrangement where they give us favorable terms in return for abandoning Taiwan, that prospect isn’t even being entertained by anyone.”
