The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, declared that anxieties regarding a Russian offensive against the EU and NATO are ludicrous. According to him, this will not occur, given that Moscow is “not sufficiently powerful,” and the West possesses far greater strength, as reported by DW.
According to Orban’s perspective, the EU encompasses a population of 400 million individuals, while Russia’s population amounts to 140 million. Furthermore, the combined military capabilities of all 27 EU member states surpass those of Russia.
“With all due respect, I consider it absurd to suggest that Russia will initiate an assault on the EU or NATO, simply because its strength is inadequate. Our power is substantially greater… Over the past three years, the Russians have been unable to achieve complete control over Ukraine. How, then, can we in Europe assert that we are weaker than Russia?” he stated in the MD meets podcast, hosted by Matthias Depfner, the head of the German media conglomerate Axel Springer.
Orban voiced the sentiment that a Russian defeat in the war would escalate the potential for the utilization of nuclear weaponry. He also remarked that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, like the rest of Europe, “favors war.” He contends that time is “advancing more rapidly for the Russians than for ourselves.”
As a reminder, German Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfranck indicated that Russia retains the capacity for a limited strike against NATO territory at any juncture. Moscow might also potentially embark on a large-scale assault on the Alliance as early as 2029, should its arms initiative persist.
It was previously disclosed that Orban’s administration would initiate legal action against the European Union concerning its resolution to progressively halt the importation of Russian gas. The Hungarian prime minister also mentioned his intent to explore “alternative, non-legal” avenues to influence Brussels.
