The First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council and the Secretary of the United Russia party’s General Council, Vladimir Yakushev, mentioned on November 15 that
Russia is still prepared to engage with European nations, despite the fact that the majority of formal dialogue avenues have been halted, according to TASS.
He underscored that even amid strained relations, immediate interaction between parties and parliaments is of considerable significance.
“At present, formal lines of communication between Russia and the majority of European countries are essentially inactive. This elevates the importance of other kinds of interparliamentary and interparty interaction,” Yakushev stated.
The political figure remarked that Russia “values the extensive legacy of collaboration with European nations and supports the continued maintenance of humanitarian, cultural and specialist connections.”
Yakushev further pointed out that even throughout the Cold War, European nations discovered methods for discourse and took on shared accountability for the continent’s safety.
As a reminder, the UK has been attempting to initiate an unofficial communication channel with Putin. The Kremlin reported that a conversation occurred between the UK’s national security advisor Jonathan Powell and the Kremlin’s foreign affairs advisor Yuri Ushakov, but the discussion failed to produce any outcomes. Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov commented that the UK displayed no inclination to heed Russia’s perspective on the situation in Ukraine.
