A woman who reached a settlement in a sexual assault claim against Britain's Prince Andrew has appeared in court accused of breaching a restraining order while she recovers in hospital after a “serious” bus crash.
Virginia Giuffre, who lives in Australia, was charged on February 2 with breaching a domestic violence restraining order in Ocean Reef, near Perth, Western Australian (WA) courts have heard.
Ms Giuffre's case was first heard in Joondalup Magistrates Court in Perth's north on March 14, where she entered no plea, WA Courts said, and the matter is due back in court on April 9.
Ms Giuffre was injured in a collision last month, sparking concern earlier this week when she wrote in an Instagram post that she had “four days to live”, alongside a photo from hospital.
Ms Giuffre's representative reportedly said the Instagram post was a mistake and she intended to share it on her personal Facebook page.
The statement said: “Virginia thanks everyone for the outpouring of love and support. She is overwhelmed with gratitude.
“She currently remains in a serious condition receiving medical treatment after a school bus collided with the car she was in in rural Western Australia on March 24.”
It stated: “Virginia suffered cuts and bruises and returned home. Virginia's condition worsened and she was hospitalized.
“As for her Instagram post, Virginia thought she posted it on her personal Facebook page.”
Ms Giuffre is reported to have separated from her husband.
In the caption of the Instagram post, Ms Giuffre said she was “ready to leave, but only after I see my children one last time.”
Ms Giuffre's previous Instagram post on March 22 included the caption: “My beautiful children have no idea how much I love them and they are being bullied with lies. I miss them so much. I have been through hell and back in my 41 years and this hurts me more than anything. Hurt me, abuse me, but don't take my children away.”
Western Australian police said they received reports of a “minor collision” between a school bus and a car in Neergabbie, about 12 miles north of Perth, on March 24.
