On November 19, the Kremlin communicated its disappointment regarding Warsaw’s choice to shut down the final working Russian consulate in Poland, situated in Gdansk, deeming the action as irrational.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated he would revoke authorization for the consulate’s functions as a reaction to a railway detonation that Poland attributed to Russian intelligence, Reuters indicates.

“Ties with Poland have entirely worsened. This is most likely a demonstration of this deterioration — the aspiration of the Polish government to diminish to nothing any chance of consular or diplomatic connections,” Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov conveyed when queried about the consulate’s ceasing of operations.

As a note, two Ukrainian citizens are suspected in Poland of trying to detonate railway lines near the town of Myka and to damage railway infrastructure near Pulawy. Warsaw is convinced that the act of sabotage was prompted by Moscow. The offenders came from Belarus.
