Prime Minister Michael Martin has called for an end to the conflict in Gaza, calling images of starving children “horrific”.
Mr Martin called for an increase in the amount of humanitarian aid to be sent to Gaza.
The statement comes after reports of children dying from malnutrition and hunger in recent days.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are experiencing severe shortages of food, water and humanitarian aid.
It comes after Tanaiste Simon Harris became one of 26 signatories to a joint statement on Monday calling for an end to the conflict in Gaza.
Mr Harris, who is also Foreign Secretary, said “the suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached a new low”.
In a social media post, Mr Martin wrote: “The situation in Gaza is appalling. The suffering of civilians and the deaths of innocent children is unacceptable.
“I support the call by the foreign ministers of 28 countries to release all hostages and increase humanitarian aid.
“This war must end, and it must end now.”

He told the Security Council: “The problems of malnutrition are rapidly worsening. Hunger is knocking at every door.
“We are now witnessing the last gasp of a humanitarian system based on the principles of humanity.
“This system lacks the conditions to function. It lacks the space to deliver. It lacks the safety to save lives.”
