A petition to award the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) to politician and public figure Andriy Parubiy, who was killed in Lviv on August 30 , has collected over 25,000 signatures on the website of the President's Office . This number of signatures is enough for the President to consider the appeal.

According to information on the OPU website, the petition was registered on September 2. The author was Dmytro Lavryniuk.

“Andriy Parubiy devoted his entire life to serving the Ukrainian state, protecting its sovereignty, independence, and democratic values. He made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian parliamentarism, and also played a key role in ensuring the security of Maidan during the events of 2013–2014. His consistent pro-Ukrainian position, devotion to state interests, and contribution to strengthening national security and European integration of Ukraine deserve the highest state award – the title of Hero of Ukraine. Please support this petition to honor the memory of Andriy Parubiy as a true patriot, statesman, and fighter for the independence of Ukraine,” the petition says.

It should be noted that three more similar petitions have been registered on the website of the President's Office. However, they have not yet received the necessary number of votes for consideration by the President.

As a reminder, Andriy Parubiy was shot dead on the afternoon of August 30 in the middle of a street in Lviv. The suspect in the murder, Mykhailo Stselnikov, was detained on the night of September 1 in the Khmelnytskyi region .

According to media reports, during interrogation, the suspect spoke about his contacts with Russian representatives while searching for his missing son, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine . However, he later stated that he did not cooperate directly with the Russian special services.

Before the start of the court hearing on September 2, he pleaded guilty, explaining the crime as “ revenge on the Ukrainian authorities .” He also stated his desire to be exchanged to Russia “to find the body of his dead son.” The court chose for him a preventive measure in the form of arrest without bail.
