On Wednesday, October 8, the Verkhovna Rada plans to examine a determination regarding the ongoing operations of local self-government agencies throughout the period of martial law. This was relayed by the People’s Representative, Oleksiy Honcharenko.

As per the representative, the enactment of this resolution will deliver juridical foundations for the ongoing duties of regional councils, municipal leaders, and local populations, given that conducting polls within the nation is presently unfeasible due to the ongoing conflict.

It is worth noting that polls in Ukraine are permissible solely after the abolishment of martial law. To enable this, the president must issue an applicable ordinance, which requires endorsement from the legislative body.

In recent remarks, President Zelenskyy indicated that the governing bodies might contemplate organizing polls if a cessation of hostilities occurs at the battlefront, provided particular assurances are in place.

As indicated by a poll conducted by the sociological entity “Rating,” the bulk of Ukrainian participants expressed readiness to back incumbent President Zelensky, former Chief Commander Zaluzhny, and Petro Poroshenko in the forthcoming electoral process.
