Kelly Osbourne has thanked her fans for their “support” during the “most difficult time” of her life following the death of her father, Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne.
In 2019, the rock legend was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The musician died on July 22 at the age of 76 surrounded by his loved ones.
Since the tragedy, messages have poured in from fans and friends around the world, with thousands visiting the Black Sabbath bench in the artist's hometown of Birmingham to leave floral arrangements, wreaths, posters, balloons, candles and notes of remembrance.
Last Wednesday, Osborne's family arrived at a bench on Broad Street to lay flowers during the funeral procession.
Kelly, 40, a star of the 2000s reality show The Osbournes, shared a post on her Instagram story on Monday thanking her for the support.
She noted: “I have tried many times to find the right words, but I am still not sure if they can convey everything… However, I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.
“Your love, attention and warm messages have been my support in the darkest days. Every kind phrase, shared memory, expression of empathy means more to me than can be expressed.
“The experience of loss is something unpredictable. The pain comes in waves. Sometimes it seems impossible to continue. But the knowledge that our family is not alone in its grief helps us move forward.
“I draw strength from the love, the fond memories and the spiritual legacy he left behind.
Thank you for being here. You are all so special to me. – Kelly #BirminghamForever #OzzyForever.”
Earlier this week, Birmingham City Hall announced it was starting a collection of memorabilia for eventual donation to the Osborne family.
A small group of fans watched from behind the barriers, taking photos and cheering on each other as staff in reflective uniforms carefully collected the flowers and mementos from the bench and barrier.
The authorities said that all objects would be carefully preserved in agreement with the musician's relatives, after which they would be placed “in a safe place to ensure their integrity and dignified treatment.”
Officials said: “These items will be handed over to the family in due course to serve as a lasting reminder of the public's appreciation and love.”
In a statement issued by the city council on behalf of the Osborne family, it was said: “The heartfelt expressions of love left at the Black Sabbath Bridge and the band's mural on Navigation Street have touched us deeply.
“These tributes highlight how important Ozzy was to his hometown, its people and fans around the world – BIRMINGHAM FOREVER!”
