Israel's cabinet has approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request to fire the head of the country's Shin Bet internal security service.
The late-night decision to fire Ronen Bar deepens a power struggle centered largely on the question of who is responsible for the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack that sparked the conflict in Gaza.
It could also spark a separation-of-powers crisis in the country. Israel's attorney general said the cabinet had no legal grounds to fire Mr. Bar.
