This spring, I spent a few days with the cast and crew of the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of “The Magic Flute” as they prepared for a May 19th opening. The creative energy in the building was exhilarating; there was so much to paint! This staging incorporates the latest theatrics: there’s a moving platform, wire suspension, live sound effects by a Foley artist, and live drawings projected on the stage.
